The transition from ICE cars to Electric cars properly will surely take a certain amount of time but for those who are not ready to compromise time and schedule yet have goodwill to answer theenvironment issues can take hybrids as a choice as of now. With a good hybrid You can go electric most of the times yet will not have to suffer from Range Anxiety. Honda has launched their cutting edge hybrid car e:HEV in India
Honda City eHEV:
Honda City e: HEV is one of the most fuel efficient mid sized sedan available in India for now. It is claimed to give a mileage of 26.5 kmph with petrol. The car has a fuel tank of 40 litres. This is a petrol+ electric hybrid car with Electric Regenerative Braking combined with Hydraulic Braking and self-charging Lithium-ion battery pack of 172.8 V (not externally chargeable). The 5 seater Hybrid sedan is available in a single variant named Honda City eHEV ZX. The car has 3 driving modes, EV driving mode, Engine driving mode and Auto select Hybrid driving mode.
Petrol Electric Combination:
The Honda e:HEV is an intelligent multi mode drive system car i- MMD that can be run just like a petrol car usually. The 1.5 litre four cylinder ICE engine of 1498 cc burns the fuel and powers the motor as usual that produces further power to drive the wheels. The engine generates 93 bhp power and 109 Nm torque and the Traction Motor generates 126 bhp power and 253 Nm torque.
Whenever One doesn’t want to drive the car with fossil fuel can opt to the Electric battery pack for giving power to the Traction motor which now powers the wheels to move . The motor also generates energy (electricity) from the energy needed in braking and charges the battery pack. Thus theoretically no energy is lost in between. Though the car has not a powerful battery like a pure Electric Drive yet the battery is efficient enough.
Above the speed level of 120 kmph, however the electric traction motor goes off and automatically shifts the power to the ICE engine.
Honda City eHEV Exterior:
The front wing face of the new e:HEV has a new grill that is distinct from the regular Honda City. We also see new claw type enclosures for the foglamps. The protruding Honda logo with blue outline at the front and back marks it’s difference as an Electric Hybrid. The chrome bar attached with the logo extends to the headlamps and there is a wide air passage just below the number plate. The headlamp has 9 array inline shell with DRL integrated and the turn indicators have L shapes. There are bumper protectors in front and rear
In the lower rear there are two reflectors set at the widest edge of the car just above the tyres. The rear bumper diffuser is given a cool carbon finish. The trunk lip spoiler looks pretty sporty .
The wheels are 16 inch diamond cut alloy wheels as already seen in Honda City. Overall the car looks sporty as well as premium. The overall Length is 14.91 ft (4549 mm), Width is 5.73 ft ( 1748 mm), and Height is 4.88 ft ( 1489 mm).
The only problem felt in the car is it’s ground clearance for Indian roads. With a 2600 mm wheelbase it has ground clearance of only 165 mm. The turning radius is fair 5.3 Mt.

The interior looks classy with two-tone Ivory and Black Interior colour theme. The dashboard has a 8 inch Touchscreen infotainment system with a easy and comfortable 7 inch HD TFT color meter console for the driver.
