VIDA by Hero Motocorp:
Indian roads will soon see new electric two wheeler brand Vida, powered by Hero Motocorp. The maker of Super Splendor, Glamour, Passion, motorcycles and scooters like Activa and Pleasure among other popular brands, India’s largest two wheeler company Hero Motocorp is going to launch their first Electric Scooter under the brand name Vida soon , probably on the 1st July, the date of the birth centenary of the founder of Hero group, Padma Bhushan Sri Brijmohan Lall Munjal Ji. Vida will be the official brand name for it’s electric two wheelers through which Hero Motocorp is planning to enter into the EV two wheeler market in India.
What is Vida:
Dr. Pawan Munjal, the hon’ble Chairman and CEO of Hero Motocorp introduced Vida brand in March, 2022 in an island in Dubai. Introducing Vida logo in the backdrop of sunrise , he conveyed ” Vida means life, and the brand’s sole purpose is to create a positive impact on the world and move us all forward in meaningful ways.”
Munjal added ” When I see our future generations, especially my grandchildren, all I want to do is build a future of optimism, a future of positive energy, a future which is clean, where everyone has something to look forward to and participate in something bigger and better. With the creation of ‘Vida’ we will offer everyone the opportunity to thrive, grow and live better while continuing to move the way they want.” He assured that he will be leading the initiative from the front.
Vida a Global Brand:
Hero’ s vision with the Vida brand is clearly international. Hero Motocorp though will be unveiling Vida first in India, has plans to make it a global brand. Mr. Sanjay Bhan, the Head of Hero Motocorp global business said EV products are in great appreciation in mature economies and hence ” Vida, powered by Hero, is a global brand and we are working towards priming our strategic markets ahead of the products and services launch. Some of the key geographies for our EV products will be Europe and Latin America alongwith a few more markets…..EVs provide us access to several new geographies”.
Making of Vida:
Hero Motocorp will be building it’s electric two wheelers at its Chittoor plant in Andhra Pradesh. Hero has gone into a partnership with Taiwan based EV company Gogoro for the development of the electric two wheelers. It is perceived that as Hero has a large stake in another Indian EV scooter company Ather Energy, the experience will be helping Vida also. Hero is also planning to set up a battery swapping network all over the country before launching it’s first scooter. Gogoro’s experience and success in battery swapping system can help Hero Motocorp Vida greatly.
Vida the Competition:
Hero Motocorp’s Vida brand will be giving tough competition to all the existing electric two wheeler brands without any doubt. It is speculated that Vida will launch it’s first Electric Scooter as an agressive competitor to the existing high speed and City Speed Electric Scooters. As People rely on Hero Motocorp brand name over a long time and as they have already a reach of wide Indian network through it’s existing dealers and sub dealers , the Vida will get a great advantage over other players already. Moreover with the introduction of battery swapping system,Vida might be the first choice for many people.
But as Vida is coming after some other players that are already contributing to the green mobility like HEROelectric, Ola, Ather, Okinawa and many other names, Hero Motocorp Vida will also experience a hard competition in this emerging market. However, it will be the customers’ choice and the services given by the companies, that at the end will matter the most.
